RAVEN'S KISS A PARANORMAL ROMANCE RAVEN GRACE SERIES Book 1 edition by Toni LoTempio Kimberly Killion Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
My review
I was excited to read Toni LoTempio's book, because I read some reviews prior to the book. I did not have to be disappointed!
Plot
Meet Raven - she has been bit by Demon Aega and she is seeking her revenge. She is working in the Recovery Organization, which deals with supernatural criminals and bad guys. She hopes that her work in the Recovery helps her to find Aega. One day Raven comes across another girl who is bitten by Demon Aega and Raven wants to get into the bottom of this. Thanks to the portal to parallel universe she travels to another world to continue her search for Aega. On the other universe she finds so much more, especially Finn who is very attractive Scot and Raven finds herself quite attracted to him. It doesn't help that he can actually read her mind. Together they need to find a solution to Raven's identity and also catch Aega and an unknown dark and powerful enemy.
I liked the plot and I loved the aspect of parallel universe. I think it was brilliant! I enjoyed how characters were described by the author differently in the parallel universe; they were like different persons and personalities. It gave so much extra excitement to this book!
Characters
I could not understand Raven. I think she was overly annoying and unpleasant in the beginning. She acted like spoiled brat. I liked her personality much better after she met Finn. It seemed that author tried too hard to create her, so Raven did not seem natural.
Finn was a sweet guy. I liked him from the moment he appeared in the book. Sweet, nice, flirting - a perfect match to Raven!
Generally
Raven's Kiss by Toni LoTempio was a good paranormal romance book. There were well described characters, interesting plot and a lot of fun to read!
4 stars out of 5.
This actually kept me guessing! Normally, with prophecy books, I can get it all figured out on how everything is supposed to unfold. Oh no! Toni LoTempio totally fooled me! Which, I think is awesome.
I have to admit, when I first started reading this, it was a little hard to get into. But it quickly piqued my interested and I finished the rest without much though to what I really should have been doing at the time. The story was able to stand out from a lot of the other paranormal romance books, and that is a big bonus in a genre full of other worldly creatures.
Raven was an interesting character. She wasn't likable at first, we see her as her coworkers see her. But then we get to see bits and pieces of the real Raven and the character really starts to shine. Through all of her trials, I started to like her more and more until I loved the character.
This totally had me faked out. I thought it was going to end in a huge cliffhanger. But, alas, the author has spared us. I can't stress how much I detest cliffhangers in books. I don't mind small ones that link it to the next book, but huge cliffhangers drive me nuts. I liked the way this ended. Leaves room for more and also wraps up the main story nicely.
Packed full of adventure, parallel worlds, hunky Scotsmen and a whole slew of other creatures, this was definitely a must read. Toni LoTempio is definitely on my radar now and I plan on making sure this isn't the only book of hers I read.
typos abound, such as using quotation marks instead of apostrophe's, inappropriate and sometimes non-existant paragraph indentations, and cliched dialog make this book nearly unreadable. i understand to read an urban fantasy novel, you need to suspend disbelief, but even the dialog between the Recovery agents in the second chapter is completely unlike anything "cops" would normally say, way too touchy-feely. Even though this is a non-fiction book, some situations, like police procedure and personal interactions, would remain the same and this type of research would be beneficial for the future. the author needs polishing, and a great editor, before trying to write anything again.
I read a lot of books, maybe one every day or two, and have never written a review. This book bugged me so much that I had to. The story it self was pretty good, but the editing, or should I lack of editing, it drove me batty. Unless you were paying very good attention you never knew who was talking, it wasn't smooth - the paragraphs ran together, punctuation? ha! (not that I am very good at it any of that) I really don't get into all of the editing stuff, if there are some typo's or some puctuation mistakes ok, but this book it just made me nuts. It was just really hard to read.
This was a great little mystery. I would definitely recommend it! For the price, you can't go wrong.
