Wheels in Motion Laura McGee 9781921681769 Books
I enjoyed this book from the first page to the last. The absolute mental tenacity and strength required to live with cerebral palsy (particularly being completely non verbal) is imbued in Laura's writing style. One paragraph of the book reads "Nobody can be in a wheelchair and be fully contented with the situation. Having said this, you shouldn't let your disability rule your life by being bitter or resentful."This one paragraph certainly puts life into perspective and shows how truly tough Laura is.
I am a Paramedic and as such I do come into contact with disabled people of all types from time to time. Laura's book certainly made me take a step back and review how I interact with these patients. In Laura's case (as well as many individuals of the disabled community) her intelligence is fully intact.
This book is recommended for any person in the health profession who works with disabled people (no matter how seldom or how often), for any able bodied people who might have disabled friends or for anyone interested in a truly inspirational story about how, against all the odds, Laura not only survived, but succeeded.
A great read!
